ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) - On Sunday, February 7, 2010 at 5:20 a.m. Andover Township PSAP received calls of an overturned vehicle with four occupants still inside on County Highway 517 near Potter Avenue in the Lake Lenape section of the township.
Andover Township Police along with Lakeland EMS (Sta 43), Andover Township FD (Sta 32) and Medic 53 were alerted. Air medical was also placed on standby.
LES 43-230 returning from a mutual aid assignment in Newton responded.
Upon arrival the crew was met with a vehicle resting on its passenger side at the top of an embankment. The crew immediately secured the vehicle with rope to the guardrail and cribbing. In order to confirm the number of injuries due to foggy windows they cut away the windshield to reveal a single occupant hanging upside-down from her seatbelt.
ATFD 32-75 upon arrival deployed additional stabilizing equipment so full access could be made to treat and remove the victim. LES Rescue 43-231 arrived to provide scene lighting and additional vehicle stabilization.
Once the victim was removed she was evaluated by paramedics and deemed to be a BLS patient and was transported to Newton Memorial Hospital.
ATFD and LES rescue teams remained on scene providing vehicle stabilization until the arrival of the wrecker.
The accident remains under investigation by the Andover Township Police Department.
