Ravena, NY - Animals rescued and part of a residence saved after a quick knockdown at a structure fire in Ravena Thursday evening, February 7th.
Crews were called to 20 Moxley St. at the corner of Moxley Street and Route 9W in Ravena on Thursday, February 7 after receiving multiple calls for a structure fire around 6:50 p.m.
Arriving units had smoke pushing from the front windows of the house. Crews made entry and had a heavy smoke condition from the second floor of the structure.
A grease fire in the kitchen went out of control and forced the residents to evacuate.
Two bedroom doors on the second floor were closed and prevented fire damage from reaching the two rooms.
Crews made quick work knocking down the fire in approximately 20 minutes or less.
Three cats were rescued from the structure, one of them did not survive. The other two cats were treated by Ravena Rescue and firefighters by giving them air to bring them to a stable condition.
Two fish were also discovered, still swimming in their fish tank upstairs in the residence. Hermit crabs were also brought out of the structure.
Ravena Fire responded and Coeymans Fire responded as mutual aid and New Baltimore Fire responded with their FAST Team. Coeymans Hollow Fire was placed on standby. Ravena Rescue, Albany County Paramedics, and Coeymans Police were also on the scene.
The structure has apartments on each side. One side had no damage due to the quick stop made. There was fire, heat, and smoke damage upstairs in the side of the building were the fire originated. There was also water damage, leaking into the lower level.
All residents and firefighters made it out safe with no injury.
